The closures included the Atlantic Club which employed around 1600 people who were all left jobless. Also on the northern end on the boardwalk were Showboat and the Revel casinos which collectively employed another 5,000 people, all left without jobs. In late 2014, the Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino was also closed.

As the fate of the city as a whole sways in the breeze, there are numerous accounts found on the internet as well as from long-time casino goers. The seasoned folks have rich lively stories of the few blocks adorned with neon lights, cheers and ample amounts of entertainment. Today, we hear nothing but negativity about how the city is attempting to rebuild year after year, only to realize that revenues have been on a steady decline since it’s peak in 2006. The year made headlines, the revenues in the billions. New casinos were proposed, thriving casinos were renovating only to come to a screeching halt just a few months later.

In 2006, America’s Playground was alive and thriving, in 2014, the revenues had fallen a huge 44%, three casinos had closed their doors in just a few short months. There are many different answers from many different crowds as to why Atlantic City was not revitalized by the overhaul many of the casinos were offering. Atlantic City for the most part, remained the same on the outside however, behind closed doors there were major changes happening. With Las Vegas being on the west coast, many didn’t consider the effects when it came to the money being poured into that adult destination instead.

The Mob was a major part of the casinos and their successes. Some top officials for the state of New Jersey have expressed that taking the mob out of the equation was the nail in the coffin for the casino industry of Atlantic City because they knew how to run the casinos. They knew how to operate in a way that didn’t lose money like we are seeing today. Some believe that Atlantic City could have been rethought, rebuilt under new management, new ideas without The Mob and their involvement however, this idea is 20 to 30 years too late in order to revive this fallen city.

With the news and the talk of mistrust among family and hired help for childcare, it’s hard to visit a place like Atlantic City where there is virtually nothing enticing for a family with small children. Here was a downside to Atlantic City, though it was a gambling destination, it was a place that people visited from around the world, with no family friendly features, it was only attracting a couple of different types of people. With the fact that there was such a large group of people missing, there was more and more crime as time went on. Suddenly, Las Vegas seemed more enticing to families and those traveling with children.

When most of us think about the name Trump, we associate it with limitless riches, Donald Trump, the legend behind a long list of different entrepreneurial feats. Most of us assume that the man himself is in charge of most of the things that go on bearing his name. This is almost all the way untrue. Donald Trump, the face of the brand is only a 10% shareholder in some of the operations including the Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino. Prior to the sale of the Hotel & Casino, he requested that his name be removed from the brand, unfortunately the buyers insisted that his name remained simply for the fact that it was easily identifiable, marketing would be easier and it was the driving force behind the acquisition.

Today, there are still great casinos to choose from, one being the Borgata, the casinos is bridging the gap between online betting and casino betting by offering services such as Bet from Bed, a program where players can use their computers or the hotel’s television since New Jersey was the third state to offer and regulate online gaming from within the state like Nevada and Delaware. The state of New Jersey was reluctant to allow companies to erect online casino brands however, in order to stay afloat the state felt that it was best to follow in Nevada’s state as the city of Las Vegas is a big moneymaker for the state.
