Pennsylvania Online Gaming Update

Though the mind typically heads over to the west coast when the subject of gambling comes up, the east coast is in for a big change in terms of it’s gambling laws. With New Jersey and Delaware already on board with the regulation of online casinos from within their states, we might see nine other states on that coast to open online casinos of their own.
Online gambling has been alive and thriving since around 1992. The online casinos that were opened back then were only operated from over seas countries. For the most part, they still are. It is a fact that billions of dollars are sent over seas to fund online gambling accounts. This, even more apparent when the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) was retracted in December of 2011.

Since the numbers are showing a large portion of US dollars going over seas, it is apparent that online gambling is a booming underground industry. How do law makers get ahead of the curve with this? They allow their own citizens and land based casino owners to start up their own digital blackjack tables.

The next state to strongly consider is Pennsylvania, here the legislature is on the table of bill makers to discuss. The numbers for how much the industry would bring or take away from the state are due by May. The theory behind the regulation of online gambling from within the states is this; Each state needs money. Gambling is a big industry with high dollar transactions. This can be the solution to a number of problems in any state.

Just across the border in New Jersey, 148,000 player accounts have been created since the opening of the first casino on the 21st. Just six weeks after the opening with little to no advertising, the state has seen an increase of $1.2 million. There are several states who may jump on the online gaming bandwagon by introducing the lottery online within the coming months, Florida, Michigan, Georgia and Pennsylvania are a few. Within the next two years, we are expected to see even more states jump on, some could even be Texas, Louisiana, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, California and New York.

Sports teams are even jumping into accepting sponsorship for online gaming. PartyPoker is now affiliated with the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils which is a big move as this is the first time a professional sports team or teams has taken sponsorship deals by online gaming companies.

Throughout the nation, we will see some states completely veto online gambling. Of course a state like this will be easy to spot; Utah for example doesn’t allow any form of gambling other than bingo at dinner types of gaming. Other than that all of the other states may jump into this at some point because it won’t pose as a huge threat to existing casinos. In a sense, lawmakers feel that the land based casinos will be for those who are interested in tourism or are enjoying a night out. The online casinos will be there for those who like to play the games from home.
